FG to seek two by-elections in May

THIS week Fine Gael will ask the Government to hold two by-elections in May, 10 days before the party actually wants polls to open.

The Labour Party described as “foolish” the announcement by its partners in opposition that when the Dáil opens on Tuesday it will attempt to move the writ for two Dublin by-elections.

If it is successful, legislation means the vote in both constituencies would have to be held within 28 days. This would lead the votes to happen on May 26 at the latest.
