TAOISEACH Brian Cowen has accused the Labour Party of exploiting the banking crisis to boost its seats in the local elections.

During Leaders’ Questions in the Dáil he told Labour’s Eamon Gilmore that the party’s position on the recapitalisation of the banks was akin to “playing games”.

And he claimed “using phrases like bailout” when discussing the banks was designed for political gain rather than protecting the future of the economy.
