A 19-YEAR-OLD Co Kerry man is alleged to have attempted to steal €4,000 from an octogenarian.

At a special sitting of Cork District Court Thomas O’Brien was charged that at Pouladuff Road on April 9 he attempted to steal the cash from an 80-year-old man, contrary to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001.

Gardaí requested that he be remanded in custody, but Mr O’Brien’s solicitor, Emmett Boyle of Frank Buttimer & Company, argued that his client should be given bail.
