PEOPLE living with the destructive affects of drug dealing in Limerick were yesterday urged to dial a new helpline to fight the scourge. The confidential, non-traceable number is 1800 220 220.

Mayor John Gilligan said: “The freephone number offers safety in numbers to people who may be afraid to pass on information for fear of reprisals.”

Mr Gilligan said the increase in heroin in Limerick was leading to a rise in crime as addicts would do anything to get enough money to get their hands on the drug.
