PIETA House, set up to help prevent suicide and self-harm, plans to open a centre in Limerick.

Plans for suicide prevention centre

A meeting will be held in the South Court Hotel on April 16 to discuss the proposal with all who work in the field of suicide and self-harm.

A spokesperson said: “We offer one-to-one counselling for people who have attempted suicide, have suicidal thoughts or who self-harm. The service which is free of charge first opened in Dublin in 2006. The centre aims to reduce the ever-increasing incidence in suicide and provide a supportive environment to people who are in crisis...”

The meeting will be addressed by speakers who will include Dr Joan Freeman, founder and director of Pieta House; Dr John Connolly, medical adviser; and Dan Neville TD, president of the Irish Association of Suicidology and member of the International Association of Suicide Prevention.
