Criticism of school transport hikes

PARENTS face huge upheaval trying to meet massive increases on school bus fares from next September, it has been claimed.

The 2009 budget introduced a hike in annual costs on the school transport system to €300 per second-level student, up from €99 last Easter.

Families will also be expected to pay the full price before schools re-open in September, instead of on a term-by-term basis as is currently in operation.
