ANGLO Irish Bank’s external auditors, Ernst & Young, have refused to attend a hearing of an Oireachtas committee which is examining the bank’s meltdown.

The company has also dismissed the possibility of being successfully sued by Anglo shareholders, saying the threat of civil litigation is “misguided”.

In a statement yesterday, E&Y “thanked” the Joint Committee on Economic Regulatory Affairs for its invitation to appear at a hearing this Thursday, but said it had “respectfully declined”. An appearance before the committee would “not be appropriate” at this point, the company said.
