Parents fear raising problems may impact on schoolchild

PARENTS are afraid to raise problems with teachers or principals because they fear it might impact on their children’s education, school leaders have been told.

Áine Lynch, chief executive of the National Parents Council-Primary, said yesterday these and other barriers to discussing difficulties with teachers caused surprise and concern among all in attendance when they emerged at the council’s recent annual conference.

“Parents expressed concern that if they raised difficulties or a complaint with a teacher or principal that this might have an adverse impact on their child,” she said.
