Talks under way to save 130 jobs at Limerick hotel

Staff at the Castletroy Park Hotel should know by the end of the week if talks to secure their future have succeeded.

Management at the four star hotel confirmed it has put together a rescue package in an effort to secure the future of the hotel.

Workers were told at a meeting earlier this week the hotel is experiencing “trading difficulties”, but is open for business.

The hotel, which was sold for €25 million to a private property company in 2004, has 107 bedrooms and caters for a large business clientele.

A retirement village, shops and restaurants were built on land around the hotel over the past year.

In a statement issued after Monday morning’s meeting with staff managing director of the Castletroy Park Hotel, Brian Harrington said he expects the outcome of the rescue talks to be known by the end of the week.

“Further to our meeting of this morning in the hotel and for the sake of clarity, please be advised that Castletroy Park Management Ltd the company which operates the Castletroy Park Hotel continues to trade as normal,” he said.

As a result of trading difficulties it has however commenced to engage with all relevant parties in an effort to put a rescue plan in place in the hope of securing a future.

“It is expected that the outcome of this will be known before close of business on Friday, January 30. We would ask all concerned for their patience and continued support in this difficult time,” the statement concludes.
