Mystery surrounds pier car

MYSTERY surrounds how this car ended up early yesterday morning with its nose buried in the mud off Bantry pier.

Consequently, the Garda spokesman said he was unable to provide any information about the incident.

A local businessman whose shop is directly opposite where the car entered the water, said he could not find out how it happened.

“The car was there when I arrived for work at 9.30am... I met a garda at the scene but he told me he knew nothing about it,” he said.

Later in the day the car was lifted out and removed by tow truck.

But yesterday nobody was able to explain how the vehicle went off the pier or if anyone was injured in the incident.
