Three arrested after attack

MEMBERS of the Garda Regional Support Unit arrested three men yesterday after an attack on a halting site in west Cork, which is believed to be linked to a continuing Traveller feud in Waterford.

Travellers who had recently moved out of the south-east were attacked at the halting site in Bantry by a number of men using weapons, who arrived at the site early yesterday.

Two of the victims were taken to hospital. Their wounds are not thought to be life-threatening

Gardaí were alerted and set up patrols in the region in an effort to detain the attackers, who fled in a car.

Garda Regional Support Unit members stopped a vehicle and arrested three men near Macroom in the early afternoon.

The men were being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
