Inquest for teen killed by gang

AN INQUEST will be held at Ennis Courthouse on December 10 into the death of Richard “Happy” Kelly whose remains were found in a lake after he was abducted and murdered by a Limerick drugs gang.

Mr Kelly was 17 when he disappeared on April 24 and his skeletal remains were found in Lake Bridget near Bodyke in Co Clare in November 2007 by fishermen. A tracksuit bottom found in the lake matched those worn by the youth when he was last seen alive.

Gardaí suspect he was targeted by a drugs gang who operate in Southill — where he lived — after he stole a car in which they had stashed drugs. He was a known joyrider and was due in court for taking a car in Adare. “Happy” Kelly was last seen alive in a car being driven near Daly’s Cross on the Dublin road.
