Two arrested after man dies
The men are both from the Glanworth area and aged in their mid-20s.
They were last night held for questioning in Fermoy and Mitchelstown Garda stations and can be detained until this morning before being charged or released.
The assault on single man Denis Nolan, from Glanworth, is alleged to have occurred in the village in the early hours of the bank holiday Monday, October 27.
Mr Nolan died this week as a result of a brain haemorrhage after spending almost two weeks in hospital.
After being injured in the attack on Glanworth’s Main Street, he managed to get home and went to Clonmel the following day as part of his lorry-driving work.
But after feeling ill, he was brought to South Tipperary General Hospital, diagnosed with a brain haemorrhage and transferred to Cork University Hospital.
As Mr Nolan’s condition continued to deteriorate, he was put on a life-support machine where he remained until his death.
Superintendent Tom Myers said yesterday the men arrested were being held on suspicion of assault causing harm.
Anyone with information, or who noticed anything suspicious in Glanworth between 11.30pm on October 26 and 1.30am on October 27 is asked to contact the station at 025-82100.
