Teachers union furious at hidden education cutbacks

OPPOSITION to the Government’s cutbacks in education is expected to intensify following the discovery by the Teachers Union of Ireland (TUI) that budgetary restraints are more far-reaching than previously thought.

Yesterday, the TUI learned that an increased pupil to teacher ratio will apply to the further education sector, the Leaving Cert Vocational Certificate, the Leaving Cert Applied Programme and other programmes designed for specific needs.

Post Leaving Certificate (PLC) courses will be particularly badly hit by the new cuts, says the union.
