Ryanair cancels 29 more flights from Rome

RYANAIR was forced to cancel 29 of its flights from Rome as Ciampino Airport remained closed for a second day following the emergency landing of one of its aircraft there on Monday.

In a statement, the airline said it was only operating nine flights out of Rome from Fiumicino airport.

“The aircraft operating Ryanair flight FR4102, which suffered multiple bird strikes on landing at Rome Ciampino Airport on the 10th November, is currently in the process of being removed from the runway. However, due to the damage to the main landing gear the removal of the aircraft will take some hours to complete and the airport will not reopen this evening,” it said.

Ryanair was forced to cancel 24 flights from Ciampino on Monday after the aircraft travelling from Frankfurt came to rest on the runway with its left engine resting on the runway.

The aircraft remained on the runway all day yesterday. The airport also remained closed, with all flights to and from the airport cancelled.

Ryanair confirmed the passengers and cabin crew who received medical attention on Monday have been discharged from hospital.

The airline advised customers who were booked on the cancelled flights on Monday and yesterday to rebook their flights free of charge, subject to availability. Alternatively, customers can apply for a refund on the airline’s website.
