FG: Ireland descending into Third World country
The party’s enterprise spokesperson Leo Varadkar insisted the republic is starting to resemble a developing nation as he attacked the Government for allowing unemployment to rise dramatically.
Mr Varadkar demanded greater investment in training and education to boost jobs. “Ireland is sliding into the economic abyss. The economy is shrinking. The public finances are starting to make Ireland look like a country in the developing world, not Europe, and unemployment is set to soar,” he told the Dáil. Mr Varadkar predicted unemployment would break through the 250,000 barrier when live register figures are released today.
