FINE GAEL leader Enda Kenny has followed his Labour counterpart and warned his party members to be ready for a general election next year.

Last month, Labour leader Eamon Gilmore said he was putting his party on an election footing because of the possibility of the Government falling over the budget.

Mr Kenny has now followed suit, telling the annual Fine Gael presidential dinner in Dublin over the weekend that there was a “very real prospect” of a general election in 2009. He also said he expected to be Taoiseach after the election.
