Multi-disciplinary healthcare centre to open in Limerick
The facility, which will open next April, will be known as 4U Medica. It will open at the City East Plaza in the city.
It will offer a one-stop shop for healthcare needs in the wider Limerick area.
Dr Michael Flynn, managing director of 4U Medica, said it will be staffed by at least 12 GPs, dentists and a wide range of allied health professionals.
Consultants will also see patients at the new centre which will open seven days a week. Dr Flynn told the Irish Medical News: “This is one of the largest developments of its kind in Ireland with so many medical services under one roof and it will be an inclusive centre that will open to all.”
He said the new centre would be interested in providing services to the HSE and all interested parties including health insurers and public and private patients.
The centre will be a much welcome addition to GP access in Limerick city where doctors are not linked into the ShannonDoc out-of-hours service.
Limerick city GPs have resisted calls from local politicians over the years to join ShannonDoc claiming that the out-of-hours service they provide among clusters of GPs is adequate.
However, patients in the city often find it difficult to get in contact with a GP at weekends.
