THE cabin crew union at Aer Lingus has said it will not be bound by the deadline the airline has imposed for agreement on its €74 million cost-cutting plan.

That plan involves €50m in savings from the outsourcing or redundancy of 1,500 staff at the airline. Of those, 1,300 are expected to be ground crew in all three airports. The majority of the 200 cabin crew affected will be in Shannon. Management has said its proposals, or alternatives which would also save €50m, must be agreed by November 30.

Otherwise it will press ahead with the changes from December 1.
