Mandate recommends acceptance of wage deal

MANDATE trade union has recommended its members vote in favour of the new national wage agreement even though it offers only a fraction of the increases for the low paid that the union had been seeking.

The low-paid retail workers’ union’s delegates will vote on October 22 on the deal which gives many of its members a 6.5% pay increase over 21 months.

In advance of negotiations, Mandate was one of a number of unions demanding a €30 per week flat rate increase for the low paid.
