‘No new schools in 20 years’

THE Government has failed to provide any new primary school buildings on Dublin’s southside for two decades despite the economic boom, a public meeting on education funding has heard.

The fact was pointed out to hundreds of parents and teachers at an event organised by the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO) to highlight concerns about primary schools funding ahead of the 2009 budget.

INTO general secretary John Carr said almost nine-out-of-10 pupils in south Dublin are in classes bigger than those promised by the Government six years ago.
