Public asked to help identify unknown Dublin stab victim
Last night, gardaí said they were not yet releasing the man's name.
The man, thought to be aged 30, was found with multiple stab wounds at a derelict church near a park in Palmerstown, west Dublin.
Superintendent John Quirke, who is leading the investigation, had earlier said the man may be a foreigner, and gardaí sent his photo and fingerprints to Interpol.
Supt Quirke confirmed the man was stabbed a number of times and that he died of a stab wound.
A number of people had been reported missing, he said. “We’ve managed to trace all the people reported as missing, so it’s somebody that’s outstanding. We checked all the missing person’s files, it does not match any of the descriptions.”
The area where the man was found was used by people walking their dogs and that Waterstone Park bordered on it and that some allotments were behind it. Gardaí have appealed to anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact them.
Gardai said the area was used by young people for drinking at night.
