The 17-year-old from Ballyphehane in Cork got As in all three Junior Certificate papers he sat last June.
He is a pupil at the School of the Divine Child for students with physical disabilities at the Lavanagh Centre in Ballintemple.
Edward sat foundation level English and maths, as well as ordinary level science, which was his favourite subject.
“I got a really big surprise when I found out,” he said.
“Science was my favourite subject. ”
He hopes to go on to study biology in the Leaving Certificate at the school.
Deputy principal Aileen O’Sullivan said the staff are delighted and paid tribute to Edward’s teachers who helped him prepare for the exams.
He was helped by a scribe during the three papers last summer, a facility made available to help students who would otherwise have difficulties sitting the Junior Certificate or Leaving Certificate.
The school has more than 20 pupils aged between five and 18, and has had one or two students taking Junior or Leaving Certificate exams in each of the past five years.
