Mother recovering following horror stabbing at home
The woman, 51, suffered severe stab wounds to the upper body and was in a serious condition when gardaí arrived at her home.
She was discovered just outside the front door of her townhouse in the Charlesland development, outside Greystones.
“Gardaí were alerted by a 999 call sometime after 8.20pm and were on the scene in a couple of minutes,” said Superintendent Michael Lernihan of Bray Garda Station. “They found a lady who had suffered injuries on the steps outside her townhouse.”
He said she was in a serious condition with a number of injuries to her upper body, in the torso area.
Supt Lernihan said gardaí applied first aid until an ambulance arrived. Gardaí then accompanied the victim to St Vincent’s Hospital in south Dublin, where she underwent emergency surgery.
“She is holding her own in hospital. They are hoping she will make a full recovery eventually,” he said.
Neighbours in the large private residential area said the victim was from the north Wicklow area and lived in the house with her daughter.
Gardaí sealed off the scene immediately after arrival and carried out an external technical examination before the heavy rain came down.
An internal technical examination was conducted yesterday morning.
Supt Lernihan said a male was arrested about half a mile from the scene at about 9pm on Monday.
The 22-year-old was taken to Bray Garda Station and detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Gardaí are not looking for anyone else in relation to the assault.
Supt Lernihan said there were no appeals for information at the moment, saying they were satisfied with the investigation so far.
Gardaí recovered the suspected stabbing implement at the scene and it has been sent away for forensic examination.
