€4.2m lotto winner at large in Cork

SOMEWHERE in Cork, the owner of a lucky Quickpick ticket is holding onto a €4.2 million fortune.

Speculation has reached fever-pitch on the northside of Cork city as to the identity of the winner, who purchased their ticket at Dunnes Stores, in the Blackpool shopping centre.

The midweek scoop is the biggest win in Cork since the Cunningham family, from Farranree, won €16 million in July 2007 — still the largest jackpot in Irish Lotto history. It was also won with a Quickpick ticket.

The latest winner purchased the ticket at the Dunnes Stores outlet on Tuesday.

The winning numbers were: 13, 18, 26, 27, 30 and 39. The bonus number was 40.

The chances are the winner is from the locality, although Dunnes’ branch grocery manager, Dave O’Connor, acknowledged that the store gets a lot of passing trade.

“But a lot of the local community come and shop here too. We wish the best of luck to whoever has won the prize. It is brilliant news,” said Mr O’Connor.

In Lotto Plus 1, the lucky numbers were 1, 6, 16, 22, 31 and 34. The bonus was 36. The holder of the six numbers could win €350,000.

In Lotto Plus 2, the numbers drawn were 8, 26, 30, 37, 38 and 41. The bonus ball was 18. The top prize for this draw is €250,000.
