A UNIVERSITY chief has called for Education Minister Batt O’Keeffe to speed up his planned review of the Government’s €2 billion annual spend on third-level education, so underfunding in the sector can be reversed.

Peter Malone, chancellor of University of Limerick, applauded the minister’s initiative which is likely to begin in the next month.

Mr O’Keeffe has asked the Comptroller and Auditor General John Buckley to analyse the value for money in all third level colleges, and specifically the amount of time academics spend teaching.
