YESTERDAY’S closure of the Boston Scientific in Tullamore with the loss of 240 jobs has prompted Fine Gael to demand the Government stop the “domino effect” of businesses closing in the midlands area.

Charlie Flanagan, the party’s Laois/Offaly TD, said only four years ago Boston Scientific was considered one of the top 10 companies to work for in Ireland.

He said its closure, the latest in a number in the region in recent months, was an economic and psychological blow to Tullamore and the midlands.
