THE Government must come up with a compensation package for businesses and householders hit by flash flooding in Newcastle West late last week.

That’s according to local business association representative Pat O’Donovan, who also called for work to begin on measures to prevent the sort of flooding that hit about 100 businesses and homes in the County Limerick town early on Friday morning.

As water from the overflowing river Arra receded in recent days, helped by a relatively dry spell of weather, shop owners and householders spent the bank holiday weekend cleaning up their premises and dumping destroyed goods and furniture.
