Changeable weather reigns

Yesterday’s weather throughout Ireland brought a new meaning to the overused meteorological term “changeable”.

Basking in summer sunshine one minute and then running for cover the next, punters at the Galway Races bore the brunt of summer 2008’s “changeable” nature and the bad news is that it looks set to continue for much of August.

According to the British forecasting company, Weather Action, conditions are likely to deteriorate even further over the coming weeks with the risk of heavy rains and local flooding.

Spokesman Pierce Corbyn bases his predictions on solar weather techniques and, to his credit, is renowned for his accuracy.

“We expect more thundery deluges and local flooding but especially in the central and north parts of the country, often less wet in the south and west,” he revealed.

In its prediction for the next five days Met Éireann says we can expect a mixture of sunshine and showers in warm close temperatures.
