‘No point in second vote before Christmas’

FRANCE will not find a solution to the impasse caused by Ireland’s rejection of the Lisbon treaty during its EU presidency, according to Nicholas Sarkozy.

The French president indicated that he does not see the point in Ireland holding a second referendum on the treaty before Christmas, and does not believe there will be a solution before his term as president of the European Council ends in December.

Instead he is working on putting a method in place for the Czech Republic when it takes over the presidency on January 1, 2009.
