MUSIC classes for junior students at the flagship Cork School of Music have been saved — for this year at least.

There had been fears that classes for first and second-level students — the lifeblood of CSM — would bear the brunt of proposed cutbacks across Cork Institute of Technology’s constituent schools.

But the institute’s governing body confirmed last night that it has directed that the institute maintain the number of students admitted to the first level programmes this year.
