YOUNG women are being asked to use “girl power” to reduce the level of speeding and drink-driving among young male motorists, as part of an initiative by the Road Safety Authority (RSA).

As part of the “He Drives, She Dies” campaign, female passengers are being encouraged to express their concern about dangerous driving behaviour by male friends and relatives, as research reveals they are more likely to be killed or seriously injured in traffic accidents by male drivers.

RSA figures reveal that more than two-thirds of all female car passengers killed on Irish roads in the past decade were in vehicles driven by males.
