Two die on roads as bus knocks man from bicycle

TWO people lost their lives over the weekend as a result of traffic collisions in Dublin and New Ross.

An elderly man died early yesterday morning after he was knocked off his bicycle by a bus in Dublin’s city centre.

The 67-year-old was cycling along Fitzwilliam Square East at about 1am when the incident happened.

Gardaí said the man suffered serious injuries and was brought to St James’s Hospital. However, he died a short time later.

It is understood a Dublin Bus vehicle was involved in the accident.

Gardaí at Pearse Street are investigating and are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.

Meanwhile, a 22-year-old man lost his life on Saturday after a two-vehicle collision in New Ross.

The crash happened at about 12.40am at Campile Road in the Co Wexford town.

The victim was a passenger in a car which collided with another car. He was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

Two other men who were in the same vehicle were also brought to Wexford Regional Hospital.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
