Man died after he fell asleep at wheel

Nigerian Beloved Folorunsa Alehinloye, 42, a church pastor, of 138 Rosemount, Thurles, Co Tipperary, died in Cork University Hospital (CUH) on August 25, 2007, from the appalling injuries he sustained in the single vehicle accident at Brittas, on the Thurles to Templemore road that same day.

The Gilmore Security employee was on his way home from work when his car veered across the road at about 7.30am, and struck five concrete posts.

Cork Coroner’s Court was told the road surface was in good condition and there were no signs of braking on the road.

Collision investigator Garda Thomas Dunlea said the most probable cause of the accident was that the driver fell asleep at the wheel.

The jury returned a verdict of accidental death.
