Lorry kills cyclist after collision

A 52-YEAR-OLD woman cyclist was killed in a road accident in Cabra in Dublin yesterday when she was struck by a lorry.

Of the 91 people killed in road traffic accidents, already this year, four have been cyclists.

The lorry collided with the woman’s bicycle on the Nephin Road at about midday.

The road was closed from the N3/Navan Road to the Boogeys Road and there were lengthy delays following the accident.

Witnesses are asked to contact gardaí at Cabra on 01 6667400.

Meanwhile, the 12-year-old French girl who died following a road accident near Louisburgh in Co Mayo on Tuesday evening has been named as Pauline Kahn, a native of Paris. A 10-year-old girl who was also a passenger in the car remains in a serious condition at Mayo General Hospital.

The girl who received fatal injuries had been holidaying with her family in the Old Head area on Tuesday when their car collided with a 4x4 owned by a local farmer along a route to a beach.

The dead girl’s mother and father and her sister were injured in the impact. All three were recovering yesterday at Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar where they had been brought by ambulance.

The girl who died was a back-seat passenger in the family car. She was pronounced dead shortly after her admission to hospital.

Investigators completed their examination of the accident scene early yesterday.
