‘One-stop shop’ for agricultural business unveiled
She was officially opening an €18 million landmark development which showcases agri-related activity in a modern setting on a 28-acre site at Cillín Hill.
It was developed by Kilkenny Co-op Mart and features a multi-purpose venue and conference centre alongside state-of-the-art facilities for the core business of livestock sales.
Ms Coughlan said the development is more than just a mart. It consists of excellent event and conference facilities, retail units, agri-business space — in essence a one-stop shop serving the agricultural business community and beyond, she added.
Praising the approach of enriching the mart experience by offering many alternatives, she said the complex has the capacity to cater for a wide range of large scale events including trade fairs, exhibitions and concerts.
“It is important that marts continue to meet the standards set down in legislation as regards health and welfare, handling facilities, hygiene facilities and compliance with animal traceability requirements.
“The livestock facilities here are excellent and I have no doubt that the mart will contribute greatly to the farmers in this area and beyond in the coming years,” she said.
Ms Coughlan reminded farmers of the importance of animal traceability in achieving and maintaining competitiveness in the best markets for animals at home and abroad.
“The marts play an important role in the cattle traceability system.”
