Teacher suspended over alleged assault

A TEACHER has been suspended after an alleged assault against a student during class, which is being investigated by gardaí.

Teacher suspended over alleged assault

The incident happened at a second level school in the south-east of the country last November and was reported to local gardaí early last month. The allegation made by a Junior Certificate student is that the teacher hit him in the upper body during a class, apparently in a dispute about homework.

Gardaí were notified about the complaint about five weeks ago and have decided to await the outcome of the school’s disciplinary procedures before proceeding. It is understood that no statements have been taken, except the one made by the student who alleges he was assaulted and that nobody has been arrested in relation to the matter.
