GARDAÍ in south County Dublin are investigating an ATM robbery at a Dunnes Stores shopping centre.

Gardaí probe ATM robbery

A substantial amount of cash was taken in the heist shortly after 4pm yesterday at Cornelscourt.

Gardaí say a security company employee was accosted by two men in the car park area and forced at gunpoint into the area of the centre where the ATMs are filled.

He was forced to open the machines and the cash was removed.

The security man was then bound and gagged and the two men made their way from the scene. It is not known what mode of transport they used. The security man freed himself a short time later and alerted his employer, who contacted gardaí.

The first raider was described as being aged 20 to 25 years, 5ft 9in, with a stocky build. He wore blue trousers, grey hoodie, a black scarf around his face and carried a black pistol-type firearm with a silver handle.

The second man was aged 25 to 30 years, 6ft 3in to 6ft 4in, and had dark eyes. He wore a black leather jacket with a hood.

Gardaí are investigating the incident and CCTV in the area is being examined as part of the probe.

Gardaí at Cabinteely Garda Station are appealing for information and are asking anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the vicinity of Dunnes Stores over Saturday evening and Sunday to contact them on 01 6665400 or to contact the Garda confidential line on 1800 666111.
