ONLINE scams are set to reach record levels this year, as measures aimed at reducing internet rip-offs were unveiled yesterday.

As the government-backed makeITsecure campaign was launched at Dublin Castle, it was revealed that Irish computers are targeted by email scams an average of 298 times each day.

Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Eamon Ryan admitted that just last week he had almost been duped into disclosing his own financial details after he received an email purporting to be from a bank.
