DENTISTS are alarmed at the number of very young children needing to have decayed teeth removed under general anaesthetic.

Parents must monitor how often they let young children have sugar-containing drinks such as soft drinks and fruit juices, the Irish Dental Association (IDA) urged yesterday.

The IDA also wants the Health Service Executive to develop an oral healthcare programme for pre-school children.
