Doctor warns over surge in teen obesity

A CORK doctor told yesterday how he is treating 13-year-olds who weigh a staggering 12 stone — the same weight as international footballers.

The youngsters, who should be a trim seven stone, are putting themselves at risk of early heart disease as well as diabetes.

Cork University Hospital’s Dr James Ryan, also reported a surge in the numbers of teens with weight-related diabetes, which can lead to early death.
