The victim received shotgun injuries to his arm, but was not fatally wounded. Gardaí said the shooting happened at Collinstown Grove, Clondalkin, west Dublin, at 9.20pm.

“A 52-year-old man received gunshot wounds to his arm after being shot in his home,” said a Garda spokesman.

“He was later taken to Tallaght Hospital for treatment. It is believed one gunman was involved and the shooting happened in the kitchen,” he said.

Gardaí from Ronanstown Garda Station were called and the scene was sealed off. Anyone with information can contact Ronanstown gardaí at 01 666 7700.

Meanwhile, a man arrested in connection with a brutal gangland murder in Clondalkin in January 2007 was released from custody over the weekend.

Damien Dowdall, 23, was shot dead in front of his girlfriend on January 23. A 23-year-old was arrested last Thursday in connection with the investigation. He was released from Clondalkin Garda Station at the weekend.

In a separate crime over the weekend, gardaí on patrol duty came to the aid of a shop assistant who was being threatened at knifepoint by a thief.

A Garda spokesman said officers were patrolling Dublin’s south inner city area on Friday night when they came across the robbery and “restrained and arrested” a man who was wielding a large knife. The man, aged 29, was taken to Kevin Street Garda Station and detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. The spokesman said nobody was injured.
