Zimbabwe tops agenda in Ahern Mbeki talks

ZIMBABWE’S declining social and economic situation was raised by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern during talks with South African president Thabo Mbeki yesterday.

Mr Ahern said he had stressed the European Union’s concerns over the human rights record of president Robert Mugabe during the hour long meeting in Pretoria.

The Taoiseach said Mr Mbeki had informed him of South African-led negotiations aimed at improving the suffering of the Zimbabwean population, but he could not reveal the details.
