Drug tests ordered after man’s death

GARDAÍ have ordered drug tests on the body of a 30-year-old man who died yesterday. He was named locally as David Orr, from St Johnston, Co Donegal.

He was taken ill at a house in the Lismonaghan area of Letterkenny and brought in a critical condition to a local NowDoc out-of-hours clinic at 8am.

He was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. He is believed to have been at a new year’s party when taken ill.

A postmortem was carried out later yesterday.

Gardaí said the local doctor who carried out the examination said death was from natural causes, but a toxicology examination was ordered to determine whether drugs had contributed towards the death.

Gardaí said the drugs test was part of the preparation of a file for a coroner’s inquest. They said it was not a criminal investigation. The house where he was taken ill was examined by gardaí, but it is understood there was no evidence of illegal drugs.

Gardaí also questioned a number of people who were with Mr Orr at the time. Inspector Pat O’Donnell confirmed a man was brought by a number of young people in a car to the NowDoc at 8am. Mr Orr, who lived in Letterkenny, was known to gardaí.
