Nightmare served up at Ramsay’s Ritz
That is according to one of the customers who recently paid close to €280 to eat at the Michelin star chef and television personality’s restaurant.
Patron Peter Barry said: “It was an appalling experience from start to finish. I booked a table for myself and my girlfriend in the third week of opening.
“With his Kitchen Nightmares show he should go to his own restaurant and sort it out. We got there for 8.30pm and were seated promptly at 8.30pm. We did not get the menus until 9pm. We were passed every minute by staff trying to look incredibly busy, but not actually getting anything done.”
He said the restaurant was full and there were a lot of people sitting around who they thought were finished their meals because they were sitting at dirty tables.
“But some had not received main courses or desserts,” he said.
“We ordered the tasting menu. It was 11pm by the time we got our main course having been there since 8.30pm. My girlfriend was almost asleep.
“When the main course came it was cold, the beef was not cooked the way we asked — which you would expect in a supposedly Gordon Ramsay restaurant. He has his three Michelin stars. We got the main course and just said ‘get me the bill and cancel the dessert’.”
He said the manager was almost nonchalant when they complained.
“It was like ‘you are complaining, this is ridiculous. We will get you your dessert out immediately’. We pointed out we had been there for two and a half hours and we wanted to get out of there. It took them half an hour to get me the bill.
“We were billed for absolutely everything. It was just ‘there is your bill for €278 and out you go’.
“I would not go back. You would probably get better on a €19.50 set menu in a three-star hotel.”
However, solicitor Gerald Kean had his 50th birthday there and was full of praise: “I have had three meals there and in my experience I would have to say they were very, very good.”
