All-Irish policy survey still not started

A SURVEY of parents and students about a Kerry school’s all-Irish policy due to have been carried out in the last month has still not started, it emerged yesterday.

All-Irish policy survey still not started

Education Minister Mary Hanafin ordered the study at Pobalscoil Corca Dhuibhne in Dingle, Co Kerry, because of a policy that all students must be taught entirely through Irish. There has been some parental opposition to the move, with some non-Irish students being taught more than 20 miles away in Tralee because there is now no English speaking school in Dingle.

She had instructed Frank Murray, chairman of the Commission on School Accommodation, and the Department of Education regional office to survey all parents and students in the school to establish the level and range of provision being taught through Irish or English that will cater for the spectrum of student needs.
