A PEDESTRIAN died in Co Clare last night, bringing to five the weekend death toll on the roads.

The man, believed to be in his 60s, was struck by a car as he crossed a dual carriageway metres from a footbridge. The accident happened as he was crossing the N18 at Setright’s Cross near Cratloe at about 8pm after getting off a bus from Limerick.

According to locals, the victim, who is originally from Limerick, was on his way to visit a daughter in the area. His daughter was waiting for him in the car park of a local pub metres from the scene when the accident occurred.
