GOVERNMENT ministers remain steadfastly reliant on their ministerial cars and government aircraft to travel countrywide and worldwide, according to new figures.

Expenditure on rail and bus totalling €155 since June was yesterday defended by government spokespeople who claimed it is often not feasible for ministers to use alternative modes of transport because of multiple trips and functions on any given day.

However, the Labour Party insisted that despite the presence of the Green Party in government, there had been no shift in the transport practices of government politicians who are supposed to be implementing a new environmental policy aimed at reducing carbon emissions and tackling climate change.
