Conroy: officers face action if data accessed without good reason

GARDA Commissioner Noel Conroy yesterday warned gardaí they face disciplinary action if they access information about people without good reason.

Data Protection Commissioner Billy Hawkes praised Garda management for setting up a “model” system on data protection and called on other state agencies to do the same.

Mr Hawkes said his office was about to carry out a second audit on the Department of Social and Family Affairs over the leaking of personal information by officials to private investigators working for insurance companies.
