New checks to prevent data abuse

RANDOM checks on how gardaí access private data on the public will be revealed today in a move to prevent Garda abuse of personal information.

The initiative follows a probe into claims gardaí were selling information to insurance companies.

Garda Commissioner Noel Conroy and the Data Protection Commissioner Billy Hawkes will announce the new measures as part of the force’s new Data Protection Code of Practice.
